In 1979 he began to study Art History at the University of Heidelberg where he completed 8 seminars. He then moved on to the Goldsmiths & Watchmakers School in Pforzheim. After his move to New Zealand in 1988 Michael was employed by a number of Manufacturing Jewellers for example Opal Pacific Ltd. in Auckland (from 1990 to 1996) and Blooms Fine Jewellery in Napier (from 1997 to 2007). There he gained much experience in good customer service and workshop management and deepend his knowledge of diamonds and coloured gemstones (sapphires, rubies, opals etc.) During those years he handcrafted 100s of rings of various designs.

Since November 2007 he works from his studio/workshop in Napier South. His handcrafted gemset rings, earrings, bangles and pendants are beautiful and unique. He also handmakes masterpatterns in sterling silver.
